Bookbinding since 1986

Bristol Bound was established in 1986 by Rachel James on gaining her qualifications in bookbinding from Brunel Technical College, Bristol. Rachel has a Diploma and advanced Diploma and City and Guilds Certificate and Advanced Certificate in bookbinding and book restoration, paper and document conservation with distinctions.
For many years Bristol Bound flourished in rented premises as part of the Clifton Antiques Market in Clifton Village. During this time Rachel also taught bookbinding part-time to Graphic Designers at Bath College of Higher Education and gained great satisfaction in passing on her skills. In recent years Rachel has taught at Boomsatsuma, helping the Photography Degree Students with Portfolios, Photobooks and Box Making.

Rachel has trained, and been joined by her husband Richard, who has a background in boat-building and cabinet making. Together they bought premises at their current address in 1997. Bristol Bound have also offered work placements and passed on bookbinding skills to a new generation of artisan bookbinders.

As a husband and wife team they aim to offer a friendly professional service to their customers, whilst maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
